It's 6:45pm, and the right lane on Hollywood Blvd. is officially closed to traffic. Phil drives the USA RV up to CineSpace to great fanfare -- friends, family, stars and athletes gather to greet us and start the party. After a few adjustments, we're out of the RV and into the party.
Around 9pm, super stars Matthew Perry (Friends) and Hank Azaria (Simpsons; Birdcage) arrive. Javon Walker of the Green Bay Packers and up for NFL Rookie of the Year shows up. Shortly thereafter we're stunned and pleasantly surprised to see Jennifer Capriati walk in! Playboy playmates, models, and more than 400 good looking people arrive and all are enjoying the great food and drinks. World Famous DJ Richie Rich spins some great tunes, and the dancing gets fast and furious.
At 10:30 or so, we head down to the RV with Hank, Matthew, and Jennifer to give a little tour. We decide to let Hank and Matthew determine which of us (Phil or Rafe) gets the Master Suite for the first week with a best two out of three roshambo match (that's rock-paper-scissors, not the South Park version). Phil's horse is Matthew, Rafe's is Hank. One...Two...Three...Shoot! And Hank goes scissors, cutting Matthew's paper. One...Two...Three...Shoot! And again, Hank dominates with a crushing rock over scissors. Phil is officially relegated to the pullout couch for the first week of the tour.
Hank takes one look at the couch (6'4) and one look at Phil (6'9) and bets Phil that he will not last the tour without spending at least a few nights in a hotel to stretch his aching back. Phil accepts, with the loser agreeing to make a $500 check payable to USA's charity, the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.
We would like to thank Spence, Darren and gang from Xotic Xtreme and Samantha from Events In Motion for their expert party planning, Chad from Infinity Marketing for setting up a great charity auction, and our publicist Karin from Renaissance Creative Group for an amazing job getting us on track with the media. Video coverage of the event was provided free of charge by Gary Orono's crew, with top-notch interviews of the party guests by the beautiful and talented Lauren Hays (Playboy, Erotic Hotel, the Lauren Hays Show). All of these groups provided significant services on a pro bono basis in support of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. We are very grateful and could not have thrown the kickoff party without them. Thank you all!
We're absolutely spent after the party and head with the RV down the 405 highway to a nice wide neighborhood parking lot. We're out for a quick bite -- steak and eggs -- and then straight to sleep, dreams of Super Bowl and San Diego and the 30,000+ miles and unbelievable great times we have ahead.
